My Review :
There are those types of books that pull you in right from the beginning where you feel for the character, for the story and there there are those books were you just detest the MC so much that at one point you think , Gaaah what is the use of reading this book is the MC is going to be this mean. This was one such book for me. Though it had the basic story element. Two best friends, one ill and on deathbed another miserable for she cannot imagine a life without her best friend. That makes you pour your heart out for them. But here all I could do was drag my inner self to complete this book. The story revolves around two friends. Olivia and Zoe. Insaperable best friends forever. During the start Olivia is down with fever and is rushed to the hospital and within eight hours she is diagnosed with Leukemia ! I mean are you freaking kidding me. In eight hours ?
I’d slept at her house Saturday night. She’d been fine. I’d talked to her this morning. Eight hours later she was in the hospital and getting medicine? How could they even diagnose what she had that fast?
I don't know why it was important to show that she was diagnosed and kept on medication in eight hours. Being a constant visitor of hospital as a patient I know how much it takes just for normal blood test. And she was admitted started treatment in such a short span of time. It might take just eight hours or so to diagnose leukemia. However, additional tests are done on the patient's bone marrow samples to identify the type of leukemia. This can take one or two weeks. I think making this story realistic wasn't important to the author. It often happens that people study about certain disease before writing a story on it but here no such thing was done. Even if any research was done, it was made so unrealistic that I as a reader couldn't digest the story... Moreover. Few things were so stupid that I had to just remind my self again and again that I have to finish it no matter what.
Our MC. She is the worst main character I have ever come across till now. Selfish, mean, and downright stupid are personality traits. She didn't know what Leukemia is ...but does know what oncology is !!! What was author thinking while creating Zoe is beyond me.
What more I detest about this book, was, that it was totally revolving around Zoe. It was as if world was revolving around her. I cannot stand reading the whole book from the point of view of a selfish person. I wish I could read Olivia's point of view as well after the bone marrow transplant.
